CALAMITA/À is an interdisciplinary research project on the Vajont disaster (Italy, 1963). Since 2013, more than fifty authors, artists and researchers have been developing site-specific works on landscape transformation, energy exploitation, power relationships, social exclusion and collective identity. The project investigates the complex relationships between humanity and nature and demonstrates how historical events mark society and environment. CALAMITA/À is curated by Gianpaolo Arena and Marina Caneve. The comprehensive book with the title ’CALAMITA/À. An investigation into the Vajont catastrophe.’ was published by Fw:books Amsterdam 2024.
Supported by: Kulturamt der Stadt Köln, Italienisches Kulturinstitut Köln, Internationale Photoszene Köln Festival, Institut Français Köln, Mondriaan Fund, Kunsthafen Köln. The project is supported by Strategia Fotografia 2023, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture. The project was completed thanks to the support of Provincia di Treviso and the collaboration with FAST—Foto Archivio Storico Trevigiano della Provincia di Treviso. Partner: Fw:Books Amsterdam.
